The purpose of human life is threefold: to help each other, to create, and to attain knowledge of your immortality. That is what being born again means. It's not so easy, but the alternative is worse because if you identify with your body, you are in a wretched and miserable condition. That includes identifying with your family and your nation - not that those things shouldn't matter, but your true identity transcends them. I was emphatic about this, saying "I bring a sword, a man's enemies will be found in his own house," and in my present incarnation I regard my relatives as enemies because they are hostile to the truth. They have relinquished their judgment of truth to the wider society, they are programmed to operate socially and their society happens to be hopelessly confused at the present moment. In their defense, it speaks to their humility, they don't think they are smarter than everyone else or that they are here to judge humanity. They defer, I don't have that option.
The reason this teaching was reserved for such a late date, is that if society had been of a contemplative bent, if they had known the truth, we wouldn't have air conditioning and we certainly wouldn't have the internet, and I wouldn't be able to fix you up and set you on the right path. A lot of us would still be living in teepees. In the march of history, many peoples were trampled underfoot, but you have to step back and see the bigger picture. Read the Bhagavad Gita.
