This is the ultimate meta-portrait. It's a portrait of the Infanta, the daughter of the king and queen, but it's also a self-portrait of Velazquez painting a portrait of the king and queen, from whose perspective the viewer sees, they're in the mirror. The guy in the back on the stairs, when I drew the lines through his right arm and leg, it was very exhilarating, I still remember it well even though it was almost twenty years ago.  |
