Somewhat ironically, over the past few centuries we have learned that nature is vastly more complicated than we previously imagined, prior to modern science. For example, we have only recently learned of the salutary health effects of fruits and vegetables, which don't seem to have any survival benefit from the plant's point of view. A single cell of yeast has about the same number of parts, six million, as a Boeing 747. I had a joke about how a single cell of yeast is equivalent to the Holocaust, but in the current climate it's probably in poor taste.
