Most people, at least in America, tend to forget that it takes a lot of different kinds of people to make an interesting world. My life has been eminently unpractical, suicidal even; for about fifteen years I did little but read books, smoke dope, and drink beer. I would never presume to tell someone to be like me.
It requires a certain point in the development of civilization for enough stability to emerge, so that differences can be tolerated; small towns are more homogenous for a reason. Similarly, when wolves become domesticated and the burden of survival is removed, all kinds of genetic variations spontaneously emerge, and you get different breeds quite quickly. So although I'm kind of a bohemian, totally disreputable in the eyes of the Americans, I have a deference towards people who are raising families and doing the jobs that keep us afloat. A deference towards normalcy, if I may put it thus. I might point you to Shakespeare. You might not know this, but Shakespeare did not write as an entertainer, or to make money. He wrote as a political thinker and a social engineer. He could sympathize with all kinds of characters, that's one of the things that makes him the greatest writer of all time.
