For the Old Testament, it's Proverbs: "Wisdom is the principal thing, therefore get wisdom, and with all thy getting get understanding." That much I did do, although I neglected pretty much everything else. I was always turning up new things, so it kept me interested. For the New Testament, it's "The children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of the light." Meaning to say, souls who have incarnated more are more worldly-wise, but not necessarily better, often just the opposite. This is something we have to establish, because without an awareness of the reality of reincarnation, you will always be beset with misguided goals, disappointed expectations, blasted hopes, festering resentments, envy and the like. If you envy someone, remember that you don't know what they've gone through to get where they are, nor do you know their private griefs. There are no accidents when it comes to your birth. If you don't like your present incarnation, do the best you can with what you got, and take a more long-term view of things. Work on yourself, that's how you overcome the world. My idea of religion is that it is work on oneself, not so much profession of a creed or performance of a ritual. In that sense, as I've said before, I think AA is infinitely better than any organized religion at present.
