This perfectly sums up my impression of life in America, after 40 plus years of living there7/4/2024 This is about the Last Judgment, not that Kafka or Welles had that intention, but perfectly clear to me. Nobody gets anything, I swear. Did you not laugh hysterically in sympathy here? Welles thought this was his best work, better than Citizen Kane, and this is the only project where he was granted complete control. There's no other film I would rank in the same ballpark, but it was too dark for most people's tastes. Welles said, "Well we showed it in the bohemian neighborhoods in Paris, and they were laughing their asses off. They got it."
