This is an interesting book about self-deception. It turns out, higher intelligence is not necessarily indicative of less self-deception. A lot of people do mental gymnastics, and if you don't want to be ostracized like me, you will have to pretend to believe things you know to be false. I think it was Democritus who said that truth was hidden deep in mines, this is still true today. I cherish the truth because at one point, I felt a distinct lack of it, and I went looking for it like a drowning man catching sight of a lifeboat. It didn't make me more popular, but it made me like myself better, and that's good enough for me.
